Colour

Proposed

What colour is each brand, and how does colour behave on screen, in print and in shared contexts?

Already settled

  • The nine signatures are generated from a 12-slot wheel (every 30°, three free) and one lightness grid: the signature at step 500 (L 0.635, at least 3:1 on white) and the same hue as text at step 600 (L 0.55, the highest at which all nine reach 4.5:1); chroma up to 0.20: AKRIBIS 204°, AKURALAB 174°, AKUTEMP 234°, AKRIMET 54°, SOLFARMA 264°, AKLEIA 84°, AKZOTEC 24°, SINGULAR4 354°, AKIoT 294° (ADR-0013).

Specification

  1. A unit has a hue: its slot on the wheel, in OKLCH degrees, in the unit register. Its colours are generated: the step's lightness, the highest sRGB chroma up to the cap. Nobody picks a hex by hand.
  2. One hue, two jobs, one step apart: the signature (step 500) is the mark and large graphics, at least 3:1 on white; brand-coloured text and controls use step 600, at least 4.5:1. On a tinted surface (band, soft), text goes one further step down (700).
  3. A new unit takes a free slot (114°, 144° or 324°) and gets its signature from the same calculation.
  4. AKRIBIS One takes the AKRIBIS hue at step 950, the teal ink, and carries the nine signatures as one continuous spectrum in the ring, and nowhere else (ADR-0016, proposed). Three marks called AKRIBIS, one hue, three steps: 500, 800, 950.
  5. The parent mark takes the AKRIBIS hue at L 0.44, the deep teal (ADR-0014).
  6. Eleven-step ramps on one lightness grid, neutrals with a trace of the teal, four semantic ramps, roles in light and dark, and 342 contrast pairings proven on every build (ADR-0015).
  7. Ramps (ADR-0015): eleven steps (50 to 950) on one lightness grid, the same for every brand; 500 is the signature, 600 the text colour and 800 the parent's deep tone. Chroma follows the signature's own by a tint curve; hue drifts toward yellow or blue in the tints only.
  8. Neutrals: the same grid with a trace of the AKRIBIS hue (chroma 0.008); 0 is the page, white; 1000 is the ink.
  9. Roles: page, surface, band, line, text, body text, muted text, signature (500), accent (600), accent as text on a tinted surface (700), hover (700), active (800), soft (50), subtle (100), accent line (300), secondary (200), on-accent (white). In dark mode, the same names with other steps.
  10. Semantic: success 145°, warning 72°, danger 20°, info 250°, each a ramp from the same machine; never without an icon and a label. Semantic text uses 700; fills with white text use 700.
  11. Every declared pairing is checked in the build for the eleven brands (nine units, the parent and AKRIBIS One), light and dark; if one drops under its WCAG 2 minimum, the build fails. APCA is reported.

To re-reason

  • A data-visualisation palette (categorical from the wheel, sequential and diverging).
  • Pantone: no references until a printer asks with its profile; the published CMYK (4.1) is an uncalibrated conversion.
  • Who sets the colour when one site shows another unit or AKRIBIS One.

The nine signatures as decided (ADR-0013): grid step 500 (L 0.635), chroma cap 0.20, 12-slot wheel with three free. Every signature reads at least 3:1 on white, the floor for marks and graphics; the same hue as text goes one step down (600, 4.5:1). Every hue sits within 12° of the delivered one.

The ramps (ADR-0015): one lightness grid for all, with step 500 on the signatures, 600 on the text colour and 800 on the parent's deep tone. Chroma follows each signature's own by a tint curve; hue drifts toward yellow or blue only in the tints. Neutrals with a trace of the AKRIBIS hue; four semantic ramps from the same machine.

The contrast report: for each declared pairing, the worst value across the eleven brands (nine units, the parent and AKRIBIS One) in each mode, against the WCAG 2 minimum. Every row must pass; if one fails, the build fails. APCA is reported.
The tokens, published on every build: base.css (neutrals, semantic, signatures), one CSS file per brand with its ramp and roles in light and dark, all.css with every brand under data-brand, and tokens.json in DTCG format.

Study evidence: one lightness band for the nine signatures on a 12-slot wheel every 30°, three slots free for future units. Anchors: AKRIBIS teal, AKRIMET orange, SOLFARMA blue. The lightness sets every mark's contrast on white at once; chroma is limited by a shared cap. The ring shows the nine in the established order.
