Publish one asset page per brand with every file at stable addresses
Context and Problem Statement
The sites keep 95 hand-copied brand files in three different folders; the same mark exists up to five times with two different versions. People who need a logo for a slide or a signature look in their site’s repository or ask. Where does anyone get the right file, in the right format, and how do the copies end?
Decision Drivers
Criteria 1 (trust), 2 (one family), 7 (three languages) and 9 (generated and tested) of ADR-0009; ADR-0022 (stable addresses).
Considered Options
- One page per brand on this site, under the Asset library topic, listing every published file with its size, plus the brand’s colours, signature templates and Office theme
- A shared drive folder with exported files
- The downloads on the topic pages only
Decision Outcome
Proposed: the first option. /<lang>/delivery/asset-library/<brand>/, generated for the
eleven brands and three languages from the manifest and the data files.
- Each page shows the brand’s identity (name, area, verb, site), its colours (signature, text colour, the ramp) with its token file and ASE swatches and its print values, its marks in every colourway (the lockups for AKRIBIS One, the stacked mark for the parent), its icons, its email signature templates and sample, its Office theme files, and every published file with its size.
- Formats today: SVG (with clearspace, tight, inline), PNG at 512, 1024 and 2048 px, the icon set with its web manifest, profile pictures at 400, 800 and 1200 px, token CSS, signature HTML, theme1.xml and ASE. PDF and EPS stay open.
- Names and addresses.
<brand>-<piece>-<colourway>[-<variant>].<format>in lowercase ASCII; addresses never move;manifest.jsonlists every mark file. - No copies. A site links the published file or installs the package (ADR-0029); the copies in the sites are retired as each is rebuilt.
- Standards. The pages are pages of this site and pass the same checker as the rest.
Consequences
- Good, because “where is the logo” has one answer per brand, in three languages.
- Good, because the page is generated: a new unit gets its page with its register entry.
- Open: PDF and EPS exports; a downloadable kit per brand; imagery once decided.
