Make the tile the profile picture, fit its letters to the circle, and centre the stacked One lockup without the ring
Context and Problem Statement
ADR-0018 gave every unit a profile picture framed by the AKRIBIS One ring. Seen on the page,
Demian found the ring distracting. The study behind it (brand/evidence/avatar-study.png) had
shown where the gain in letter size really came from: not from the ring, but from fitting the
letters by their ink to a circle whose position is known. The icon system’s full-bleed layout
(ADR-0017) scaled everything to 77 % for an unknown mask, so its letters were small; the
profile picture is cropped by a known circle. And Demian asked for two further things: a
whole-word version for black-and-white uses, and the stacked One lockup centred without the
ring, everywhere.
Decision Drivers
Criteria 2 (one coherent, expandable family), 6 (recognition) and 9 (generated and tested) of ADR-0009.
Considered Options
In brand/evidence/avatar-study.png: the ring as a frame in four colourings (A to D,
ADR-0018), the full-bleed tile with letters fitted to the circle (F), the whole word on the
disc (G), and the tile as it was (E, letters at 77 %).
Decision Outcome
Chosen by Demian on 2026-10-05: F for the profile pictures; G reserved for black and white,
with One stacked and centred without the ring; and the stacked lockup so redefined for every
use. Code in brand/src/icons.ts and brand/src/avatar.ts; data in brand/marks/icons.yaml
and brand/marks/ring.yaml.
- The full-bleed tile is the profile picture. The disc in the brand’s signature and, in white, its two letters fitted by their ink, the smallest circle around the outlines, to the safe zone’s circle (80 % of the square). One scale for every pair, set by the widest (“s4”), so the letters share one x-height: 40 % of the square, against 29 % before and 38 % on the rounded square. The centre of the ink’s circle, not the box’s, sits at the centre. AKRIBIS One is the ring with its dot and the spectrum on the teal ink. The parent is included: with no One ring in the picture, nothing says the company is a unit of the offer. The same artwork serves the iOS icon and Android’s maskable icon, which amends ADR-0017’s 77 % rule; the ring keeps 60 % of the tile, the cloud’s box is fitted to the circle (68 % wide).
- For black and white, the whole wordmark in white on an ink disc, each word fitted to the circle on its own because the words differ in length (x-height 12 to 22 % of the square). Legible from about 80 px; below that the colour picture is used. AKRIBIS One takes its stacked lockup. The whole word was weighed for the colour picture too and declined: on a 40 px feed avatar seven of the nine words fall under the 10 px x-height the Wordmarks topic sets as the minimum, and their sizes differ almost twofold.
- The stacked lockup (ADR-0012, amended) is “akribis” over “one”, both centred, without the ring or the dot, the lines 1.5 x-heights apart baseline to baseline. This holds wherever the lockup is stacked, not only in the profile picture; the colour version is therefore the letters in the teal ink alone.
- Delivery. Per brand,
<id>-avatar.svgand<id>-avatar-ink.svg, each with PNG at 400 (LinkedIn, X), 800 (YouTube, WhatsApp) and 1200. Shown on the Social media topic with the black-and-white row; the rounded-square favicon is never used as a profile picture.
Consequences
-
Good, because the profile picture is not a new design: it is the icon, and the fix that made it work (fitting ink to the circle) improves every maskable icon at the same time.
-
Good, because the stacked One lockup now mirrors the letters-only lockup: two words, one construction, no separator to size.
-
The endorsement “Una unidad de AKRIBIS One” is open again on the One topic; the profile picture no longer carries it.
-
The parent’s black-and-white picture first set “akribis group” on one line and was small in the circle.
Amendment, 2026-10-05. Demian chose the stacked parent mark: “akribis” over “group”, centred, by the same rule as the stacked One lockup (the lines 1.5 x-heights apart, no separator). It is published at
/marks/akribis-group/asakribis-group-wordmark-stacked-*in colour, ink and white, with tight, inline and PNG variants, and it is the mark inside the circle of the parent’s black-and-white picture. The stacked rule is now one composition for any two-word mark (stackedPiecesinbrand/src/one.ts).
